Through the lens of John James Audubon’s iconic bird paintings, Gottlieb highlights the impact of invasive plant species on native ecosystems and the delicate balance that must be maintained to sustain life on earth. Gottlieb’s appropriation of Audubon’s work highlights the enduring relevance of his artwork and the ways in which our relationship with the natural world has changed over time.

Through her powerful use of color and form, Gottlieb creates a visual commentary on the beauty and resilience of both birds and plants. This exhibition is a poignant reminder of the interconnectedness of all living things and the importance of preserving the natural world for future generations.

In conjunction with the exhibition, best-selling author and historian, Dan Flores, will speak at the gallery on Saturday, July 27 at 11am. The author of 11 books and the recipient of numerous awards, Dan Flores will discuss “Audubon and a Vanishing America.” This event is free and open to the public.

Penelope Gottlieb is an Emmy-award winning Motion Picture Title Designer and fine artist. After receiving a B.F.A. from the Art Center College for Design in Pasadena, California, Penelope Gottlieb went on to earn an M.F.A. from the University of California in Santa Barbara, where she currently lives and works.
